The Extended Day Program
The Extended Day Program at Mary E. Phillips High School is a unique concept that allows students to come to school around noon, and dismiss at 6:30 each evening. The program provides an alternative to the traditional school day, one which supports students who may want or need this later option. This allows them to obtain employment, work out child care, or just sleep in a little later than the normal school day. Another benefit is the smaller size- smaller even than the regular day program. Classes are capped at 12 students, meaning there are never more than 12 students in a classroom. All subjects are offered, including math, science, social studies, English, electives, and other courses are offered through the GradPoint program.
Program Highlights:
· Class sizes are typically no larger than 1 to 10
· The program is capped around 50 students
· Many subject areas are offered including Math, English, Social Studies, Science, Business, Foods, and other courses through GradPoint, an online learning program.
· Students arrive at 11:45 and are dismissed at 6:35.
· Buses are provided.
· Students are scheduled for four classes, and can earn up to 8 credits a year.
· Students get academic support through Seminar, which provides a time to complete homework, make up work, and get help working on assignments while still at school.
· As part of Phillips, students in the Extended Day Program have access to everything the school does for students, including prom, attendance supports, academic help, and all of the events that happen at the school… you’re part of it all!
